What is LED?

An LED (light emitting diode) is a solid state source of light. LEDs are constructed from a variety of chemical compounds. The exact compound determines the brightness, color and efficiency of the LED. Red, green and amber LEDs have been available for many years. Only recently have blue and true green LEDs become available and affordable.
